If you walk past the huge Casino in the marina and head to the deeper water dock you cant miss this beautiful boat.

El Galeón Andalucía isn’t just a clever reconstruction; it’s a ship that has actually journeyed across oceans much like the original galleons it was modelled after. Built by the Nao Victoria Foundation in 2009, the vessel spans an impressive 50 metres, with six decks containing everything from navigation tools to cargo storage. Over the years, this historic ship has sailed more than 70,000 nautical miles, visiting ports on four continents. On one of the upper decks you can see plaques that have been given to the ship from all the places it has visited.
Its voyages include crossings of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, retracing the routes taken by Spanish fleets that once connected Europe, the Americas, and Asia. From the bustling ports of New York and Miami to the cultural crossroads of Manila, this ship has represented Spain’s seafaring heritage across the globe.
One of its most iconic moments occurred recently on the River Thames in London, where the historic vessel passed through Tower Bridge, which had to be opened to allow the ship to sail through. The sight of the Galeón Andalucía framed by the bridge was a spectacular reminder of its enduring legacy.

Our Visit to El Galeón Andalucía
We visited El Galeón Andalucía on a calm Saturday afternoon, yet stepping aboard was anything but ordinary. Despite the still waters, the ship swayed noticeably—a reminder of its shallow draught and how it would have felt in open seas. For sailors, this constant movement was just one of many hardships. Imagine enduring it for months, battling storms, illness, and the monotony of long voyages.
The ship’s six decks are a treasure trove of insights into life at sea. The galley (not accessible on our visit but we chatted with on eo the crew and he explained all about the ship), where meals were prepared, was tiny and rudimentary. Sailors would have survived on salted meat, dried legumes, and ship’s biscuits so hard they often had to be softened in water before eating. The living quarters were equally cramped, with hammocks slung close together, offering little in the way of comfort or privacy.
